What is a Floating license?

A floating license is a license that lets you install the software on many machines but only use one at a time for each license or seat held. I.e. The license can ‘float’ from one machine to another. The software that monitors the use of the software are typically stored in the cloud or on a network server or on a dongle. Some floating licenses will restrict use to only two machines thus allowing the user the ability to use the software at the office and whilst travelling or at home, but not allow more than two devices the ability to run the software. This license type can be regarded as a Semi-Floating license.
