What is a software ‘License’ and what is a software ‘Seat’?

A license is the actual agreement that permits the use of the software by the licensee, whereas a ‘seat’ is the specific use of that license by a single user or single machine.

You can have a single license with multiple ‘seats’, allowing multiple users or multiple machines to run the software concurrently (at the same time).
