How do I show 300 x 300mm tiles on the floor and 600 x 300mm tiles on the walls in 3D views?

Answer

How do I show 300 x 300mm floor tiles in a plan view in Designer Pro?

Note: The way items appear in plan drawing views is different to the use of ‘Materials’ used in other views.

To alter the appearance of the floor for a particular room in PLAN simply open the Room Specification dialog by double clicking on the room.

Then set the ‘Fill Style’ Tab settings as follows, adjusting for desired size and colour etc.

Press ‘Shift+C’ on your keyboard to open the ‘Plan Materials’ dialog box and select ‘New’

Enter a new name for the material such as ‘Tile-300×300’ and complete the dialog boxes as follows. You can of course adjust colour and size settings.

Designer Pro Define Material General tab

Designer Pro Define Material Pattern Tab

Designer Pro Define Material Texture Tab

Select ‘Browse’ and locate an image file you wish to use for the Material’s texture. In this example I selected one that I created using an image editor (similar to Photoshop) earlier called ‘TILE-WHITE-SQUARE.JPG’ from the folder as shown below.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Chief Architect\Home Designer Pro 2012\Templates\Textures\TILE-SQUARE-WHITE.JPG

You may download the Tile Image clicking here

Set the desired size for the tile e.g. x=300, y=300

check the ‘Blend Material Color with Texture’ option. This allows you to alter the tile colour as desired from the colour palette. This too is why we selected a White tile as the Texture item in the first place.

Select OK. You have now created a new Plan Material that you can apply in this model.

NOTE: This new material is only active in this plan. It does not form part of your Materials library so you can’t use it in new drawings. Please visit the related article below on how to create reusable materials in the library.
